LOGOS August 2025

Celebrating Teachers, Serving Others, and Sharing in Community

Thoughts from Pastor Dave

Grace, mercy, and peace to you all—Pastor Dave hopes your summer has been refreshing and renewing.

This month, he shares his appreciation for the joyful presence of the Day School students whose playground sits just outside his study window. Watching them play, visiting their classrooms, and joining them for chapel continues to brighten his days.

He reflects on a quote from Robert Fulghum’s All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten—a reminder that imagination, hope, love, and joy shape us as much as knowledge and experience. These values are being nurtured every day at AHPCDS, and Pastor Dave sees how the school teaches to body, mind, and spirit.

On Sunday, August 3, the congregation honored the Day School staff during a special Teacher Dedication Service. Together, the church prayed:

“Lord God, we praise and thank you for the teachers who prayerfully accept this dedication to teach!”

Chaplain’s Corner

Chaplain Phil continues his tradition of sharing short prayers that help guide us in our faith. This month’s message centers on simplifying our spiritual lives, and focusing on the essentials:

“Love God with all my heart, mind and soul.

Love other people (my neighbor) as God loves me.”

He prays that each of us can live the faith we profess, with authenticity and love.

Worship & Fellowship

The August 3rd worship service is now available to view online, including inspiring music from the choir and a message from Pastor Dave.

Following the service, over 70 people gathered for a “Cool and Refreshing” Fellowship Luncheon with AHPCDS teachers, staff, and congregation members. It was a joyful way to celebrate the beginning of the school year together.

Church Property Updates

The Session has shared the final tally of building improvements completed since last October—including updates to offices, kitchen appliances, fresh paint in Fellowship Hall, and air conditioning. The total investment in church facilities came to $96,525.06.

AHPC is grateful for the Property Committee and volunteers who have poured time and energy into these upgrades.

Missions & Outreach

Texas Hill Country Flood Relief

Although media coverage has moved on, recovery from the devastating Hill Country floods continues. The Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is working alongside regional Presbyterian networks to provide material, emotional, and spiritual support.

If you’re looking for a meaningful way to help, you can donate through the PDA website:

Back to School Supplies Drive

Also on August 3, AHPC wrapped up a joint school supply drive with the Day School. The donations were delivered to the 312th MI BN at JBSA to be distributed to children and families in need—a true wagonload of generosity!

Member News

Congratulations to new parents Suzannah and Jasper Martin on the birth of their son, Guy Calloway Martin, born on July 3, 2025! Proud grandparents Andrea and Pete Sitterle report that baby Guy is doing great and just turned one month old.

Notes from the Choir

The AHPC choir continues to bless worship with their music, and this month we welcome a new member:

Analia Flores, a second-year Music Education student at UTSA, shares her story of falling in love with music through church, family, and school. She is passionate about becoming a choir teacher and excited to grow in faith and fellowship with AHPC.

Welcome, Analia!

Day School Update

The AHPC Day School staff recently held back-to-school in-service days and classroom prep. Classrooms are getting a fresh update and will be ready to welcome students on Monday, August 4.

We’re thankful for the energy, care, and dedication of our teachers and staff as they prepare for a new school year.

Final Thoughts

August brought joy, dedication, service, and preparation to our church family. Whether you joined us in worship, gave to outreach efforts, or celebrated our teachers, thank you for being part of this community.

We look forward to seeing you in worship, fellowship, and service in the coming weeks.

With gratitude,

Alamo Heights Presbyterian Church
