As summer unfolds in Alamo Heights, we’re reminded of the beauty in slowing down and savoring life’s blessings. On a recent rainy Friday, Pastor Dave found solace in Lauren Winner’s Mudhouse Sabbath, reflecting on the essence of true rest.

“Vacations help us get away from, but Sabbath invites us to run towards God,” he shares.

While summer vacations offer a break from routine, the Sabbath provides a sacred rhythm, drawing us closer to the Divine. It’s a time not just for rest, but for renewal and reconnection with our Creator.

Chaplain’s Corner: Prayers for the Journey

Chaplain Phil offers heartfelt prayers to guide us through the season:

  • “Help me to accept the changes happening in my life and keep me going forward with a positive attitude.”
  • “Remind me, Loving God, that setbacks and difficulties are part of life. When I become consumed with worry, show me Your love and light.”

These prayers serve as gentle reminders of God’s constant presence, encouraging us to trust and find peace amidst life’s uncertainties.

God’s House: Messages and Milestones

Our church sign is now updated weekly, sharing messages of hope and inspiration. With over 13,000 vehicles passing by daily, it’s a beacon of light in our community.

Fellowship: Building Community Together

Plans are underway for July and August fellowship events. If you’re interested in helping shape these gatherings, please reach out to committee chair Doug Christie.

“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.”

Missions & Outreach: Sharing God’s Love

During Lent, our congregation contributed $715.18 to the PCUSA’s One Great Hour of Sharing. Special thanks to our Day Schoolers for their $162.18 contribution through “fish banks.”

Currently, we’re participating in the Pentecost Offering, supporting at-risk children and youth. This drive continues through June 8. To contribute, visit the PCUSA Pentecost Offering page.

Worship: Celebrating Our Faith

June brings two significant observances:

  • Pentecost on June 8, celebrating the gift of the Holy Spirit.
  • Trinity Sunday on June 15, honoring the Triune God.

“If a care is too small to be turned into a prayer, it is too small to be made into a burden.”

– Corrie Ten Boom

Celebrating Our Graduates

Congratulations to our Day School’s Class of 2025! Their graduation ceremony on May 29 was filled with joy and hope. Each child received a “Big Kids’ Little Bible,” with encouragement to explore its stories with their families.

We also honored our high school seniors—Abigail Smoot, Andrew Lindner, and Sophia Lathrop—on Senior Sunday, May 18. Their achievements inspire us all.

Day School Highlights

Looking ahead, don’t miss “Donuts for Dads” on June 13 at 9:15 a.m. It’s a sweet way to celebrate our wonderful fathers and father figures.

From the Clerk of Session

We’re pleased to welcome back Rev. Karen Stocks to the pulpit on June 8. Additionally, please note our annual congregational meeting is scheduled for the first Sunday in November. Your participation is vital as we navigate this season of transition.

As we embrace the warmth and relaxation of summer, let’s also remember the importance of spiritual rest and community connection. We look forward to sharing this season with you at Alamo Heights Presbyterian Church.
