As we move into the warmth and promise of May, Alamo Heights Presbyterian Church continues to blossom with fresh leadership, renewed energy, and meaningful fellowship. This edition of The Logos brings exciting news, heartfelt reflections, and glimpses into the vibrant life of our community.
Introducing Pastor Dave
Greetings from Pastor Dave!
Rev. David Diercksen has officially joined AHPC as our Transitional Pastor. With over 40 years of ordained ministry experience—14 of which have been in Transitional Ministry—Pastor Dave brings wisdom, warmth, and a passion for service. Before his call to ministry, he worked in higher education and the corporate world, giving him a unique breadth of experience.
Pastor Dave and his wife Nadine both have roots in the Northeast but now call San Antonio home. Nadine, a missionary and educator, currently serves as 504 Coordinator at the Celebrate Dyslexia School. Together they have a vibrant family that includes four daughters, seven grandchildren, two younger children (Anaya and Abigail), a chocolate lab named Mocha, and a guinea pig named Lovee.
You’ll find Pastor Dave’s presence already bringing joy—he blessed the children and their Fish Banks at the Day School’s Palm Chapel service on April 11. His formal welcome begins May 4th.
“I look forward to meeting all y’all on May 4th and hearing from you why you love Alamo Heights Presbyterian Church so much…”
— Pastor Dave
Chaplain’s Corner
Chaplain Phil shares his gratitude for those who participated in our Maundy Thursday, Tenebrae, and Easter services, which were filled with depth and meaning.
With Pastor Dave beginning his service on May 1, AHPC enters a season of transition. A Pastor Nominating Committee will be formed to guide the search for our next installed pastor. Until then, Chaplain Phil reminds us that our true calling is to worship God and to trust in the process with patience.
He also shares prayers to uplift and encourage us, including:
- “Forgive me, Dear God, for I know there are times when I focus on and give too much importance to my possessions…”
- “The sound of laughter is such sweet music, Loving God…”
- “Help me to listen to my inner voice which comes from Your indwelling Holy Spirit…”
And a touch of humor:
“Health insurance and hospital gowns are similar — you only think you’re fully covered.”
God’s House
Easter Sunday was a beautiful sight, filled with lilies and joy as we celebrated the resurrection in a sanctuary blooming with hope.

A Couple Houses Down From God’s House
An unexpected and heartwarming visit took place at the Robinson House, home to the AHPC Day School. A former resident toured the lovingly refurbished space and left a touching note about its transformation. A full-circle moment that reminds us how spaces can continue to bless new generations.
Fellowship and Youth
The AHPC Youth stepped up in a big way this Easter! What began as a quick brainstorm led to the creation of thoughtful and handmade gifts for members and guests. Their energy and creativity were inspiring and a testament to the Spirit at work in our young people.
Be the caring persons that God has placed in others’ lives!

Missions & Outreach
On April 12, AHPC members participated in a life-changing Habitat for Humanity missionary work that delivered 24 new homes to San Antonio families. This marked the creation of an entirely new neighborhood for families who had once faced housing insecurity.
Special thanks to AHPC’s own Steve Rutledge and Doug Christie, who continue their commitment to the Presbyterian Cluster builds. Together, they’ve been part of at least five (or six!) homes and are eager to grow the team for the next build.

Worship
We give thanks for the Rev. Karen Stocks, whose recent five-week sermon series was rich in storytelling and spirit. Her final Sunday with us was April 27, and we are grateful for the blessings she brought to our congregation.
Your Session
The Session continues to steward the life of AHPC with diligence and faith. Though recent transitions have required focused attention, the church’s financial health remains strong. You’ll soon receive a stewardship letter—please consider how your time, talents, and gifts can serve the church through the rest of this year.
Mark your calendar:
Senior Sunday – May 18
We will honor three graduating seniors with scholarships and a special commissioning from Pastor Dave.
Our Day School
April 11 was Spring Fling! The courtyard was filled with kids, parents, and grandparents celebrating community and raising funds for AHPCDS.
Earlier that day, the Palm Chapel parade brought joy as the little ones waved palm branches, sang songs, and gathered in the playground for an outdoor chapel. These moments remind us of the joy and innocence at the heart of our church family.

The Choir and Friends
Our Easter tradition continued with a congregational Hallelujah Chorus. As St. Augustine said, “He who sings prays twice.” This musical celebration is always a deeply moving part of our worship.
