The Logos – April 2025 Update

As the world awakens with spring, so does the spirit of renewal within our church community. This month’s edition of The Logos brings you important updates, hopeful messages, and a joyful look at what’s blooming—both within our congregation and on our church grounds.

A Message from Session: New Interim Pastor and Upcoming Elder Vote

We are delighted to announce that Rev. Dave Diercksen will begin serving as our Interim Pastor starting May 1, 2025. Rev. Diercksen brings a depth of leadership experience and a heart for ministry that will help guide our congregation through the interim period as we prepare to call our next pastor.

To support this transitional time, the Elder Nominating Committee has invited two elders to rejoin the Session. Expanding the Session allows us to better steward the work of the church during this active season.

Please mark your calendar:

Congregational Meeting: Sunday, April 6 after the 10:00 AM service

Elder Installation: Palm Sunday, April 13

The Session has been hard at work this year, meeting in person, virtually, and via email. These continued efforts reflect our deep commitment to stewarding the life of the church during this time of change and opportunity.

A Note from Pastor Dave

When Nancy called me with news of your affirmative vote on my behalf to be your Interim Pastor, I was thrilled. I am very much looking forward to being your pastor as we work our way through the Interim process, discerning where and how God will use Alamo Heights to move God’s Kingdom forward in the greater Alamo Heights community and beyond. See y’all on May 1st!

Lenten blessings, Pastor Dave

Chaplain’s Corner: Light in Uncertain Times

Chaplain Phil offers a poignant reflection this month on how to navigate a world filled with unrest:

“We are now living in such uncertain times… It seems our world is in freefall. But what can we do?”

He reminds us that even small acts of kindness, personal reflection, and prayer can change the world. Chaplain Phil invites us to examine our hearts, strive to follow Christ’s teachings, and lift up our worries to God.

Sample Prayers for the Journey:

• “Caring God, I will lay my burdens at your feet…”

• “Forgive me, God, when I fail to really listen to others…”

• “Help me to use my days wisely…”

• “Help me to make a difference in someone’s life today…”

• “You sustain me in dark times. Because of You, I am never alone…”

God’s House: New Growth Inside and Out

Spring has sprung at AHPC!

The columbarium courtyard is in bloom, bringing a fresh burst of color to our sacred spaces.

• A new AC compressor has arrived for the Sanctuary—just in time for summer! The “Frozen Chosen” will be cool and comfortable during worship in the warmer months.

• The kitchen pantry has been transformed, thanks to the teamwork of Sarah Mayo, Linda Christie, and Geri Cortinas. Colorful bins, organization upgrades, and a fresh coat of paint in the connecting hallway have created a space that’s ready to serve.

We are grateful to the Property and Fellowship Committees for their vision and hard work in stewarding these improvements. Spring cleaning came early this year, and it shows!

Let us continue into this season with grateful hearts, renewed energy, and steadfast hope. God is indeed doing a new thing in our midst.

Blessings to you all this April!
